Those of you who are union members will have an opportunity to vote on the contract proposals that are agreed to during the bargaining process. If you are not sure of your membership status, please contact one of the bargaining team members listed below. We have created a webpage and blog to provide information about the bargaining. The reopener bargaining for the librarians contract (Memorandum of Understanding/MOU) began on May 19. Both sides were allowed to open the Salary Article plus two other articles in the contract. The Union opened Article 3—Professional Activities and Development; Article 12—Salary and Appendix A-1; and Article 20—Vacation. The University opened Article 3—Nondiscrimination; Article 12—Salary; Article 15—Per Diem; Article 23—Corrective Action; Article 30— Duration; Appendix B—Campus Designated Grievance Office; List of Arbitrators. [The full text of these articles can be found on the Unit 17 webpage (see above for link).] As you can see, the University opened more than two articles, claiming that Articles 15 and 23, Appendix B and the List of Arbitrators were “housekeeping” changes. We are still in discussion about whether we agree with this. Keep in mind that these are only INITIAL PROPOSALS and the final language may be quite different.
